Hoi An Lantern Making Tour Itinerary
To start this Hoi An lantern-making tour, you can choose a convenient start time. In the morning you can start at 8:00 am and in the afternoon, you can start at 13:00.
Our excellent local tour guide will meet you at in front of Hoi An Historic Hotel at 10 Tran Hung Dao Street. After greetings, we will explore Hoi An Ancient Town. The first attraction is the Hoi An Silkworm Factory. This is the only place in Hoi An ancient town where you can see the silkworms eat the mulberry leaves to create the Cacoon, the materials to make silks.
Then, we will admire the beauty of the Japanese Covered Bridge. Our excellent tour guide will tell you a story about why the ancient Japanese built this bridge. Keep doing the Hoi An Lantern Making Waking Workshop, we will visit the oldest and most beautiful wooden house which is recognized as the National Heritage House- the Tan Ky Old House. Then, we will come to the Hoi An lantern workshop to start learning how to make the Hoi An lanterns. Before starting the lantern-making class, we will enjoy some local green tea and some candies. Our local guide will tell you the 11 steps to make a Hoi An Lantern.
- Step 1: Attach 12 bamboo stakes together with wire threads.
- Steps 2 & step 3: Shape the stakes into a sunrise (inverted triangle) or sunset (triangle) formation
- Step 4: Insert the bamboo stakes into a hanger and reinforce the stakes with thread.
- Step 5: Select your favorite silk and color
- Step 6: Apply glue and let it dry for a couple of minutes.
- Step 7: Set the silk and stretch the silk to cover the stakes.
- Step 8: Fully cover all sides with silk.
- Step 9: Cover the top and bottom of the lantern hanger with silk strips
- Step 10: Choose a tassel for the lantern base.
- Step 11: Completed! Now, your lanterns can be folded and stowed in your luggage to take them home.
