“Linh Ung”, which means “wishes answered miraculously”, is a common term for three different pagodas in Da Nang. Together, they create a “spiritual triangle”, which appeals to countless tourists around the world.
Yet the most popular of them all is Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, which accommodates the highest Vietnam Lady Buddha statue. Located at the height of Son Tra Mountain, the Lady Buddha looks as if she is overlooking the East Sea.
If you have had enough of beaches and city life in Danang, why not try the tranquility and majestic views of this sacred pagoda? Now let’s scroll through Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda with Vietnam Vacation Travel!
Linh Ung Pagoda’s History And Legend
The legend about Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda has been passed down from generation to generation. It was told that in the reign of Minh Mang Emperor (Nguyen Dynasty, 19th century), out of nowhere, a statue of Buddha drifted to the Son Tra Peninsula’s sandbank.
The coastal fishermen and residents took this statue as a good omen and established a shrine for it. Surprisingly, since then, the sea waves have become softer and calmer, which has helped the fishermen do their fishing work more safely.
Then people started calling that sandbank “Bai But” which means “Buddha realm in the middle of the world”. And it is the site where Linh Ung Pagoda was built today. Linh Ung Pagoda was first constructed in July 2004 and inaugurated six years later, on July 30, 2010.
Thanks to the support of Buddhists and city leaders, Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda became a new architectural complex for tourists in Da Nang City. Over a decade later, this pagoda still stands tall on Son Tra Mountain and shows its blessings to the city.

The Lady Buddha Statue, an iconic symbol of Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, is like a reward for visitors with its majesty and sacredness.
Upon your arrival at Linh Ung Pagoda, you have to walk over a 20-step stairway to reach the main gate. At the gate, two Vietnamese sentences show up:
“Linh ứng sở cầu như ý nguyện
Sơn Trà Bãi Bụt thật hiển linh.”
You will realize the pagoda name “Linh Ung” – “wishes answered miraculously”. And the whole message means that if you give your most sincere prayers to the pagoda, all your wishes might miraculously come true.
After that sacred message, the Lady Buddha statue appears as a supreme figure who ensures that it comes true. The enormous white statue stands still, marking the entrance to the Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda.
Lady Buddha Da Nang height is 67 metres, equivalent to a 30-storey building. This impressive scale will overwhelm any visitor. And despite having a huge scale, each detail on the Lady Buddha statue is sophisticatedly made, from the lotus platform with a 35-metre diameter to the 2-metre Buddha statue on her hat.
The Lady Buddha stands tall at the end of the Son Tra peninsula, looks upon the seas, and silently protects the fishermen of this land from fierce waves and gales. Her majesty and gentle eyes will ease your soul.
Being the most solemn and purest worship place in Linh Ung Pagoda, the main hall is an authentic structure with intricate details.
It shows up gorgeously with the curved roof above and many strong pillars supporting the hall. They’re all decorated with sophisticated Vietnamese traditional symbols, especially dragon patterns.
Right in the heart of the hall stands the Buddha Shakyamuni statue. Looking to the right, you will see the Bodhisattva statue. And on your left is the Buddha Tripitaka statue.
More than that, along the sides, you will be impressed by the 4 Guardians and 18 Arhat statues on their protection duty. Interestingly, each Arhat statue shows different human emotions, from happiness and anger to love and hate. They create an atmosphere full of life and spirits for the main hall.
