Introduction
Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda is considered the largest Da Nang pagoda in both scale and architecture. Its natural beauty, sacredness, and tranquility have captured the hearts of many visitors to Da Nang.
“Linh Ung”, which means “wishes answered miraculously”, is a common term for three different pagodas in Da Nang. So to distinguish them, they are called Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, Linh Ung Pagoda Marble Mountain, and Linh Ung Pagoda Bana Hills. Together, they create a “spiritual triangle”, which appeals to countless tourists around the world.
Yet the most popular of them all is Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, which accommodates the highest Vietnam Lady Buddha statue. Located at the height of Son Tra Mountain, the Lady Buddha looks as if she is overlooking the East Sea.
If you have had enough of beaches and city life in Danang, why not try the tranquility and majestic views of this sacred pagoda? Now let’s scroll through Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda with Vietnam Vacation Travel!
Linh Ung Pagoda’s History And Legend
The legend about Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda has been passed down from generation to generation. It was told that in the reign of Minh Mang Emperor (Nguyen Dynasty, 19th century), out of nowhere, a statue of Buddha drifted to the Son Tra Peninsula’s sandbank.
The coastal fishermen and residents took this statue as a good omen and established a shrine for it. Surprisingly, since then, the sea waves have become softer and calmer, which has helped the fishermen do their fishing work more safely.
Then people started calling that sandbank “Bai But” which means “Buddha realm in the middle of the world”. And it is the site where Linh Ung Pagoda was built today. Linh Ung Pagoda was first constructed in July 2004 and inaugurated six years later, on July 30, 2010.
Thanks to the support of Buddhists and city leaders, Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda became a new architectural complex for tourists in Da Nang City. Over a decade later, this pagoda still stands tall on Son Tra Mountain and shows its blessings to the city.

Upon your arrival at Linh Ung Pagoda, you have to walk over a 20-step stairway to reach the main gate. At the gate, two Vietnamese sentences show up:
“Linh ứng sở cầu như ý nguyện
Sơn Trà Bãi Bụt thật hiển linh.”
